I took an early morning walk through places at which, on a more normal Memorial Day, Shrewsbury residents would be gathering in large crowds. The sacrifices of our service members put today’s challenges into perspective; reflecting on those who fell in the line of duty to preserve our way of life makes our struggles today seem eminently surmountable. Thank you to those who served, and to those who gave all. ... See MoreSee Less
Last night's School Committee meeting included a number of important actions, including:
- A vote to refund fees and tuitions paid by SPS families for services that the district is not able to provide due to the closure of schools, prorated according to the amount of service lost
- A report from Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment Amy Clouter on remote learning, including the insights received from our survey of families and how remote learning has evolved based on experience and feedback over the past few weeks
- A vote to continue compensation for our hard-working SPS Food Services staff
In particular, a thoughtful and heartfelt discussing was held towards the top of the meeting about efforts to recognize and honor graduating seniors of the SHS Class of 2020, whose senior events have been upended by the pandemic. I have every confidence that Dr. Sawyer, Mr. Bazydlo, and their teams will execute a meaningful celebration of our graduates in the best way that public health restrictions allow. The Class of 2020 deserves no less!
I encourage you to watch the meeting, which can be found online at the link below. ... See MoreSee Less
