All Shrewsbury Public Schools will open TWO HOURS late today. There is no morning half-day kindergarten & preschool and no morning Extended School Care. Please take it slow and be patient getting to school today. For start times see tinyurl.com/zq526ko. ... See MoreSee Less
The belief that all Shrewsbury kids should have great opportunities coming out of our schools, just like I did, has driven my work on the School Committee since the start. Today, Shrewsbury schools perform extremely well, but challenges remain. We're one of the last districts that charges families for kids to attend Full Day Kindergarten. Our students are demonstrating increased mental and emotional health challenges. And we must continuously strive to prepare today's kids for tomorrow's world.
There's more work to be done — and that's why I am announcing that I'm running for re-election to the School Committee in Shrewsbury's May Annual Town Election.
I'm proud of what we've managed to achieve during my tenure on the School Committee. SPS continues to be in the top-tier of student performance metrics, while our district ranks towards the bottom in per pupil spending. We've increased programming to connect Shrewsbury students to opportunities in the workforce and the community. We've added supports to help students better cope with pressures we know contribute to mental health challenges. And we've committed to making Full Day Kindergarten available to all students, without charge, when the opening of our new school creates the space to do so — no family should have to pay for the kindergarten experience.
I will need your help in the coming months — I take nothing for granted. I'm asking for your vote on May 5th, and for your involvement in this campaign.
